My mom had this phrase she would also say to me, “If you are going to do something then do it right or not at all.” I believe this led to some of my perfectionist tendencies – wanting to make sure things were perfect! I have loosened up quite a bit over the years but I will tell you there is lots of truth in what Mom said. If you want the outcome of that thing to be great – then you need to put in a great effort. Poor effort = Poor results. If you don’t think this is something that applies to you – think again! You want a good grade on that math quiz – try putting in a poor effort like cramming the night before and see the results. What about that class project or book report? See what I mean? We are a society that wants everything quick and when we want it. There is an excellence that is missing or a sense of pride. Why not stand out and do something different? Treat that project, assignment, or job with excellence. I guarantee you will see excellent results!
